Watercolor Sky For Beginners – How To Paint a Variegated Wash

Have you ever experienced the overwhelming terror of attempting to choose the perfect color paint for your room from all those color sample paint strips available in the home and paint stores? I’ve been there, too, and have discovered an almost foolproof way to help you accomplish the task successfully and have a beautifully painted room. A room that your friends will think you not only hired a decorator, but a painter, too!
Yes, you can choose the perfect room color. After all we all enjoy living in a world full of color. Just think of all the different colors of blue there are in the sky. Don’t you have days when you look up, and the sky simply couldn’t be more beautiful? Or have you driven the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Great Smoky Mountains and been tongue tied by all the magnificent shades of green? I’ll go so far as to bet you your closet is full of colorful clothing you enjoy wearing. But are your walls white? Why? Is it because it is seemingly too difficult to find just the right color? I know, you’ve tried and the sample color chips never look the same when you get home!
The first thing you must do when you want to choose a paint color is be a good observer. That’s right; as you go through your everyday routine, make yourself to pay attention to your surroundings a bit more. For example, do you pass a house on the way to work that is a color you like? What colors strike you as interesting? Another great place to see and find rich, natural colors is the produce department of your local grocery store of farmers market. In fact here’s a big secret……pay close attention to the color combinations of fruits and vegetables. They naturally work well together, don’t they! Talk about a great color palette!
Another thing to do is browse the local book store, enjoy a cup, and leaf through magazines. And here’s another big secret….don’t restrict yourself to the home decorating magazines, look at fashion and even art (painting, watercolor, pastels) magazines. You’ll be amazed as some truly wondrous color combinations.
It doesn’t take long for you to start detecting a pattern in colors you are drawn to. Once you have discovered that pattern, turn your observing eye to your own home. Are any of these color patterns in your home now? I bet you’ll find they are.
Think about which group of colors you like the most…..got it? Ok, you have just eliminated 80% of all those color paint chip samples from discussion! All of a sudden your job of color choice just got way easier. You are on your way to choosing the perfect color every time.
After many years in the painting, faux finishing, decorative painting and custom color creation business, Debbie Fowler, owner of painted Walls, has learned that most people really do have a great color sense. Debbie has written a handy ebook on exactly how to choose the perfect color for any room. This resource is a very helpful step by step formula for the weekend warrior. It will save you time, money and best of all, frustration.

Searching for an exquisite sunrise/sunset seascape photo to paint, any links or suggestions welcome.?
I have not painted in years. My specialty was in watercolor and tempura mostly land/seascapes with emphasis on the sky. Now that I have a little time free, I have decided to squeeze in a small seascape in acrylic, a new medium for me. I perfer to paint ratio of 80% sky and 20% land/water, canvas coverage. Suggestions welcome.
Work from memory, photos or any visual that appeals to you.My preference is to go to the beach at sunrise (1 hr. prior set up,+ wait) Shoot some stills using a polarizing lens, and different colored filters to enhance,or change the color value.Repeat the same steps for sunsets.
Here's my opinion: artistic talent is largely learned. Most of the so-called experts will argue this statement, of course. They’ll proclaim that artistic oil painting techniques are only in the grasp of those rare individuals that are born with a mysteriously God-like ability to create art. Being lowly mortals, we should never even try to understand art let alone try to create it. Give me a break! Click here For the rest of the story: Free Painting Lesson
