Why Can’t You Learn How To Draw?
How often have you said to somebody, “I can’t draw”
If you think this is true, answer 2 questions… “Would you like to be able to draw?” and “Would you like to learn how to draw?”
If your answer is “Yes” to both questions, it could surprise you when I say to you… “You can easily learn to draw”
Also… “If you really want you can learn to draw almost anything”
Here are some more excuses you will hear…
1. “I can’t draw as well as a child at school”
2. “A 3-year old can draw better than me”
3. “A chimpanzee can draw better than I can”
Truth is… It doesn’t matter how bad your drawing is. Really, I’ve heard it all before. And, what’s more, I’ve heard worse… much worse.
If you said that you can only draw matchstick men… “That’s great!”
Read on and you will learn how to get more from your drawing attempts…
“So what if your people look like matchstick figures!”
Why should you care when an artist like L S Lowry became world famous, painting pictures of his local town. He was an Englishman who was capable of drawing impressive realistic lifelike portraits and figure studies that would blow your mind.
For all that, when he painted his well known scenes of his home town in Lancashire… he painted ‘Matchstick Men’. The characters he saw daily became unrecognizable cartoon like characters.
“So, where’s your problem?”
You have only just said that you you are able to draw a matchstick man. The fact is, if you can draw a matchstick man there is nothing stopping you from drawing… A Matchstick Woman, a Matchstick Boy, or a Matchstick Girl, or a matchstick Cat, or a matchstick Dog, or a Matchstick Horse.
Have no fear… “You can draw”
You will be able to easily create an Art world full of Matchstick figures. When you do so you will gain the confidence that L S Lowry had. You will see the world around you differently…
“You will be able to create drawings that show life and people in your own unique way… You will produce Art that no other artist can rival”

About the Author
Michael started painting seriously when he was 16 years old and still at school.
At that time there were only a few artists who specialized in Steam Trains (like all boys he wanted to be a train driver). The best train painters were David Shepherd and Terence Cuneo… he wanted to paint like them.
It took many years to achieve this artistic ambition. What was amazing was that there was a whole lot more to learning to paint than just steam engines. There is a whole lot of other stuff that needs to be done to make each painting interesting and lifelike.
In the process of learning to paint with oils Michael realized that he had to understand landscape painting. Around the world trains cross through countryside that changes by the mile… from open fields to dark hills… from deserts to mountain ranges. The weather changes colors and texture. There are people and animals that need to be painted.
There was so much more to learn…
As time went by Michael discovered he could draw and paint many different subjects. It has been a great adventure that allowed him to draw with charcoal, pencil and inks. Also, there have been the thrills of painting in oils, watercolor, acrylics and pastels.
Michael wants to share his painting and drawing knowledge with you and introduce you to other great artists who are enthusiastic about Art… Artists who are keen to help you become the artist you want to be.

I bought an original( I think) Jean Ekman Adams ink/watercolor. I can not find the name of it on line..Help?
I bought a professionaly framed picture today by Jean Ekman Adams. It was framed/matted in Taos New Mexico. It has 5 horses getting ready for a race with jockey animals on their backs. Other animals are on a fence waiting for the race to start(possibly) with wager tickets in hands.
I would like to know the name of this artwork and when it was originally drawn/painted. It is quite nice and I am happy I found it at a thrift store here in Florida today. Many people get rid of great art work here in Florida…
I have found several examples of Jean Ekman Adams artwork but can not find this piece..Thanks in advance for any information..
According to this…
Working in pen and ink with acrylic washes, Jean Ekman Adams depicts animals in unexpected settings and Southwest primitive folk art of Native American children. Her bronzes reflect both themes. Jean was born in 1942 in Evanston, Illinois, and studied at DePauw University. She received a BA in English from Arizona State University. Her father, Stan Ekman, was a well-known artist who painted western and landscape realism. As a child, Jean was encouraged to express herself artistically. She has the same penchant for details that her father expressed in his painting, however, she chose to pursue a whimsical theme in her imagery. Jean’s latest series of delightful story-images features a pig named Clarence and a purple-colored horse. Clarence goes out West and finds a purple horse that he names Smoky. They become good friends and share many adventures together. Her scenes are semi biographical; Jean has a friend named Clarence and she often rides in the Arizona desert with him and his horse named Smoky – however, Smoky is not purple! Winner of many awards and an UNICEF artist for 1992, 1994, 1995 and a finalist for 1996, her work appears in Christmas cards, graphic design and textbook illustration. Joan Cawley Gallery, Ltd. in Tempe, Arizona prints her posters. Jean’s paintings are light, clean, elegant and very detailed in clear vibrant colors. Her delightful paintings and bronzes are in collections in the United States and in Europe. The artist works in Arizona in the winter months and in Colorado in the summer. She lives with her husband, son, horse, dogs, cats, and a 22-year-old mule named Sugar.
…she is still alive. You may be able to contact her publisher, Rising Moon Books and they may be able to pass along your question to her about the print.

Here's my opinion: artistic talent is largely learned. Most of the so-called experts will argue this statement, of course. They’ll proclaim that artistic oil painting techniques are only in the grasp of those rare individuals that are born with a mysteriously God-like ability to create art. Being lowly mortals, we should never even try to understand art let alone try to create it. Give me a break! Click here For the rest of the story: Free Painting Lesson
