PAINTING LANDSCAPES: Exploring the Potential of Colours

The clan of artists is a group of persons who amazingly strange relationship with the colours. They would love to see all the colours applied with all of their hues. These artists know and respect the value of all the colours they use and upload on their papers and canvases.

I had enjoyed great company of these colours in the nineties. During these years I had found that it is worth to study the theory of colour and the technique to apply them. It would enrich our knowledge if we explore all the potential of these colours with their resultant effects.  Though it takes good time building up sort of deep knowledge about this great play of the nature (the colours available on the earth), gradually we can find that by practicing more and more our work or painting would be becoming instinctive, too.

While I was doing my painting Rock-man and the Ship, Oil on Canvas, I was not more than a curious student of the art of painting. But after cleaning my hands on almost a dozen of such landscapes, I had found that I have befriended the colours. The hues of blue and red had started talking with me about their characteristics. Now I can say that I can paint with ease and the blank canvass does not send me into shivers as it used to be in past.

After executing twenty or so landscapes like this one, I had learnt the meaning of the word ‘spontaneity’. I had learnt a bit about how an individual colour would respond to its adjoining colours and how a chiaroscuro would be created. By practice we learn how we can exploit a particular attribute of a colour, the inherent characteristic of a colour.

Here's my opinion: artistic talent is largely learned. Most of the so-called experts will argue this statement, of course. They’ll proclaim that artistic oil painting techniques are only in the grasp of those rare individuals that are born with a mysteriously God-like ability to create art. Being lowly mortals, we should never even try to understand art let alone try to create it. Give me a break! Click here For the rest of the story: Free Painting Lesson
