I read this a few years ago so I can’t give you quotes. And remember this is just my opinion, but I think discovery is a theme in Maus. The fear of the family being discovered by the Nazis. The discovery of how to cope in the time of war. And more importantly, the son discovering how much his father went through and finding respect for him.
Here's my opinion: artistic talent is largely learned. Most of the so-called experts will argue this statement, of course. They’ll proclaim that artistic oil painting techniques are only in the grasp of those rare individuals that are born with a mysteriously God-like ability to create art.
