Do colleges look at your high school electives?
I’m choosing electives for my freshman year and I was thinking about Art, Graphic Arts, and Fundamental Music. But I realized that taking Creative Writing and Public Speech would look better.
I want to do good in my highschool year so that getting accepted into college would be easier and I would get a better chance at getting a scholarship.
I want to have fun, but I know everything counts.
What do you think? Should I do what I would prefer, or just sit through the Creative Writing and Public Speaking?
I always thought Colleges do look at it, but in reality, they don’t really put much thought into your electives. This is what Colleges do when calculating your GPA. They take all your core academic subjects (Reading, Math, Science, Foreign Languages, History), and calculate it based on their own GPA system. They probably just give a brief look at the elective that you take, but in my opinion, you should take the electives that you like. You have 4 years to go and that is a TON of electives so have fun while you’re at it, and take what you want! The other classes are boring enough, and electives are “supposed” to be fun, so why put so much on your back?
If you really want to boost your transcript, look into taking AP/honors. Some schools also offer something called “Early College” which lets you graduate High School with an Associates Degree (that’s 2 years off of College!!). Join some clubs, try to get a office position, study for the SAT and take it at least once by the end of your Sophomore year and you should be fine. Also, your grades are very important so don’t slack off Freshmen year; it’s the easiest year to start yourself off with a high GPA!
If you’re interested in Early College, ask for more information from your guidance counselor ASAP, because once you become a Freshmen, you will not be able to do it anymore, and it also have a deadline and only so many people can join.
Good luck with everything.
Time Lapse Art Fundamentals Final
Here's my opinion: artistic talent is largely learned. Most of the so-called experts will argue this statement, of course. They’ll proclaim that artistic oil painting techniques are only in the grasp of those rare individuals that are born with a mysteriously God-like ability to create art. Being lowly mortals, we should never even try to understand art let alone try to create it. Give me a break! Click here For the rest of the story: Free Painting Lesson
